A. If you have a question fill in the form opposite and we will answer the question as appropriate. In order to keep the competition fair to other entrants all answers will be published along with the questions asked.

A. Any common format is acceptable for diagrams, but pdf is preferred. Labels and descriptors are allowed.

A. The competition entries will be sent to the Secretary of the Judging Panel and will be distributed to the judges in Thales. They will be treated as Commercial in Confidence within those organisations, and will not be shown to anyone outside of those organisations. In particular, competition entries will not be accessible to the public via the competition website.

A. Finalists will be contacted by email during the first week of December.

A. The prize-giving will be held at Thales in Glasgow on December 10th 2009.

A. If a group, whether within a department, within a university, or from more than one university, wishes to collaborate on an entry, then they can arrange to do so among themselves and that is perfectly acceptable. It is simplest to choose an individual to represent your team. Alternatively you can list the names of your team members on the entry form. If you choose the latter, you should indicate the member who is the point of contact for correspondence.

A. No, you cannot enter the competition unless you are registered with a Scottish university.

A. All of the submissions must be in the same format - ie the competition entry form - so that they can be judged on an equal basis, so there will be no presentations.

A. The judging criterion on "relevance to our business" refers only to the Thales business in Scotland. We may ask entrants if they wish to be put in contact with other parts of the Thales business in cases where we see opportunities for collaboration.

A. Yes you can. Remember that the competition asks you to demonstrate how your idea might fit into the business of Thales.

A. Within this competition, we are interested in all aspects of data and image processing and how these might be used in current and future products.

A. The idea has to be able to be used by Thales. You need to address this is the PLAN section of the entry.

A. Thales is an international company with businesses in aerospace, security and defence. Thales in Scotland focuses on defence but is also interested in opportunities in adjacent markets.

A. The subject of the 2009 Thales Scottish Technology Prize competition is data and image processing. This includes processing for both current and future sensors and systems.

A. Our principal interest is in optronics sensors and systems. We are also interested in related technology areas.
