The core of Thales' Imagery On Demand (IoD) product family is a set of digital image compression and dissemination tools that allow large amounts of Electro-Optic(EO), Infra-Red (IR) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data to be compressed, packaged and disseminated over numerous digital communication links. IoD provides numerically lossless (no loss of data or quality) image compression in real time, enabling data to be transferred via narrow-bandwidth transmission systems. Unlike other compression and dissemination techniques, the IoD product family has been designed to operate within the military environment.

Elix-IR is a next-generation threat warning system for airborne platforms such as helicopters and makes extensive use of both signal and image processing. Elix-IR is based on an array of infra-red sensors distributed around the helicopter. The IR sensors used by Elix-IR detect the heat generated by the muzzle-flash from a ground based weapon (such as a machine-gun). This information is processed and used to provide an alarm for the helicopter crew. The signals are also processed to provide the direction that the threat is coming from, enabling the helicopter crew to take evasive action. In conditions known as "brown-out", when the dust and sand kicked up by the thrust generated by the helicopter rotor blades obscures the landing site, Elix-IR's image processing facilities provides the helicopter pilot with enhanced vision. This enables the pilot to safely land the helicopter.
