Thales Scottish Technology Prize for Data & Image Processing 2009
The entry date for submission has now passedFollowing the success of the Thales Scottish Technology Prize for Laser Technology and Applications in 2008, Thales is pleased to announce the launch of the Thales Scottish Technology Prize for Data & Image Processing 2009.
Thales recognises that it has a wealth of talented academics, renowned for their expertise in technological innovation and creativity, right on its doorstep, and is seeking opportunities to engage with Scottish universities to develop great ideas into great products.
The Thales Scottish Technology Prize acts as a platform for dialogue and engagement and allows Thales to ‘give something back’ to the academic community in Scotland.
2009 Competition Prize Winner, Dr Walter Lubeigt, The University of Strathclyde
“We were delighted to have this opportunity to engage with Thales: the fact that we retained all our IP made this an easy and trouble-free process of significant mutual benefit. The significant prize money went a long way in helping the group’s research activities.”
Simon Andrews, Business Development Manager, The University of Strathclyde
''The University of Strathclyde embraced the spirit of the Thales Scottish Technology Prize and submitted entries from staff and students from several departments. The open engagement sought by Thales, including clarity on the retention of IP by the originator, was straightforward and innovative.''
2009 Competition Theme - Data and Image Processing
Thales in Glasgow is leading the way in developing products and systems with sensors for navigation, guidance, surveillance, stabilisation, range-finding, pointing, designation and many other functions. All of these sensors produce critical data, which has to be transmitted, analysed and acted upon in real time. Increasing degrees of system autonomy and networked operation increase the scale of the processing requirement.
Product functionality, intelligence and connectivity are key factors for success, processing is the key technology that provides our products with high levels of capability.
Thales is renowned for its innovation and ability to create products, which join these capabilities to provide its customers with world leading products.
